If my dad were reincarnated, he would come back as an ant. He could also make it as a worker bee, a beaver, or any other animal that spends the greater part of its waking hours building things.
Most of my favorite memories of my dad are sprinkled in sawdust. He has always loved working with his hands, and using his gift of creativity to make things for our family.
One of Troy’s first observations of Pop is that he goes to work for money, then comes home and works for fun. Family time was almost always centered around some kind of work, outdoor, indoor, and everywhere in between.
As a family, we are a great team. We know how to work together and have fun doing it. It’s almost like family therapy. The last few weeks have seen some stressful times in our family history, and given us a new appreciation for each other. We came together this weekend to heal and to love, and we did it through work.
Daniel, Joe, and James came home from New York, Troy and I cleared our schedules, and we spent our days building new entrances on the front and back doors of the cabin. We laughed, joked and ate, and remembered what it means to be a family. Family takes work, but if you are not afraid of work, family is the greatest work we will ever do.
