Halloween: Richardson Style

I love Halloween, and my husband who can turn an innocent batch of cookies into such a culinary blood-bath. I have never had so much fun decorating cookies! The only thing more fun than making them, was delivering them!

Already?!

If you have ever been to the Provo city library and have walked past the children's wing, you will have seen the statue of a boy in a rocking chair reading a book. Every time we go to this library, Aliyah has to say hi to this boy, talk to him, and take a look at his book. The other day I was trying to hurry up this routine as we were leaving and the exchange went thusly (thusly? I'm pretty sure that's a made-up word...)

Me: Aliyah we have to go now!

Aliyah: But mom, I'm talking to him!

Me: Babe, he's just a statue, it's time to go.

Aliyah: (emphatically) No mom, he's my boyfriend!!!

Me: Wha....?

Aliyah: (putting her arm around him and talking to him) "I like your book, thanks for reading with me but I have to go now."

I, of course am snapping shots on my phone while she says goodbye and gives him a quick kiss on the cheek. I stand wondering how in the world she even knows what a boyfriend is, since we don't watch any TV other than the occasional Dora episode. Suddenly the scene from Dan in Real Life began playing in my head ("Dad, I love him! I love him! I LOVE HIM!") and the terror must have shown on my face, because a lady passing by commented as she chuckled:

"Well, look at it this way, he's not a trouble-maker, he's got good taste in literature, and they won't be sneaking out together any time soon. It could be worse!"

I laughed out loud and realized that only a true veteran could be so optimistic about a three-year-old deciding it's time for a boyfriend. I've got a lot to learn.....

Busy Bee

Ok, so I have been busier than my circumstances give any reason for, and I have no explanaition for it. I cannot for the life of me get a grip on the speed of life these days! :) I have thrown myself into getting the most out of these last sunny (albeit cold) days, and I have been spending all my energy out of doors. Here's what we've been up to:

Wheels: We finally bought family bicycles and are having a blast! Troy and I got Trek bicycles (His, a 4300, mine a Skye) with baby seats. We got Aliyah a bike with training wheels, and are getting something that will work for Gavin soon. I have not had a bike since I was 10 and it is fantastic!


Restaurants: We have found some great new Utah restaurants over the last few weeks that you all should try out.

On Main street (downtown salt lake) there is a restaurant called Eva that is the cutest little New York-ish restaurant I have seen around these parts. In other words, it has a narrow, long layout with a quaint back porch area and smaller, gourmet plates.


In St George is a new, beautiful restaurant with a retro/modern feel called Haven. The Salmon steak is to-die-for! Local bands come to play from 10 to midnight on the weekends and the ambiance is fun and sophisticated.

Green: I have been increasingly passionate about healthy eating and raw food recipes. I went to a class in St. George taught by Nancy Brooks that was absolutely incredible. I have been reading The China Study, and Nutrition and Physical Degeneration and these books are sooooo enlightening. I am also going to try and attend the Green Sprouts Organic Baby and Family Fest held next saturday at Hogle Zoo to learn more about what is available here along the wasatch Front. I had no idea that healthy food could be so much fun, haha!
