4th of July 2012

Independence day wouldn’t be the same without a hearty ward breakfast to start off the day, and this year Troy was in charge.  He was off to the church at 6:30 to fire up the grills, and the kids and I joined him a few hours later to gorge ourselves on pancakes, eggs, and bacon.

Back at home afterward we began preparations for the most exciting part of our day: the 4th of July water fight.  Earlier in the week the kids and I had delivered invitations to all the families with kids in the neighborhood complete with a pack of water balloons for each family.  No excuses for not showing up. 

At high noon friends and neighbors dragged coolers full of ammunition into our circle, and the games began!  For the next 3 hours it was all-out war.  I think Troy had more fun than any of the kids.  Everyone had such a good time, and told us they hoped this was something we would do every year.  We plan on it!

After a short rest following the water fight, we cleaned up the house and got ready to barbeque.  J and Joanna brought Haley and Trace over, Pop and Grandma Laurie showed up along with Angie and James and the kids.  We had some great food, then waited for the sun to go down for fireworks and homemade icecream. 

We couldn’t have asked for a better end to a super fun day with our family and friends.
