MUD

One thing we are in no short supply of at the moment is dirt.  We have been bringing in dirt to our backyard to try and raise the level of the yard, and since a good deal of it is still in the heaps it was delivered in, we literally have mounds of dirt for landscaping.  Get it wet and you have dirt hills and mud pits- every kids dream.

This spring the melting snow and torrential rain gave us fantastic mud, though it was a little cold to enjoy it properly.  Still we had a great time of it, splashing and sliding in our sweaters and rain boots with our friends Micah and Carter Rhodes.

If the hair is any indication (above) she’s having a blast!

Then a few weeks ago, Dad went out in the hills and dug out a proper mud pit.  We hauled the hose over, filled it with water and got in our swimsuits.  We painted ourselves, made a mud-slide, and rolled around in the muck to our heart’s content.  Logan and Dad watched from the bleachers.

So we’re a little red-on-the-neck from time to time, but at least we know how to have fun with what we’ve got.  And for now, we’ve got dirt!

After hours of fun, rinsing off in buckets of warm water is the best way to call it a day.

Last but not least, the moral of the story is that if you give a child an inch (of mud) they’ll sneak out of the house when you’re not looking and play in it when they’re not supposed to.  Lesson learned.
