We had so much to be thankful for this year, we decided to celebrate twice! Our two families planned their dinners far enough apart this year that we were able to attend both get-togethers, and it was so nice to feel the love on all sides.
It is interesting to me how different our families are, but especially in the way the prepare, present and enjoy holidays. The Moss family is always perfectly prepared. The tables are set at least a day in advance, and the food is ready and waiting. Everything is picture perfect.
In the Seron family, tables are set by whoever isn’t up to their elbows in food (which is still being cooked when guests arrive) and there is usually an air of chaos in every event. Family and friends are all welcome. This year Aunt Linda, Nathan (with his girlfriend Row) and Kevin all drove in from California for the holiday. Aunt Kim and Uncle Raymond came down from Logan where she is teaching at USU for the year. Aunt Tresa’s family and her friend Monica joined us, as well as Grandma Margaret, who was transported from her convalescent home. This was Grandma’s first holiday since moving to Utah from California a few weeks ago.
As different as these dinners are, I love them both in every way. I love my family for the way that all the women converge on the kitchen to work together preparing the meal. I love the noise and chaos and the way we all end up piled on top of each other. But I also love the Moss simplicity, calm and elegance. This is the most beautiful part of the joining of two people, and two families. We get to have the best of both worlds.
